My favorite place to read…

I grew up on a relatively small ranch called the D-Ranch, 15 miles north west of a small town, Albany, Texas. Some of you might know that it is the home of an outdoor homegrown musical called the Fort Griffin Fandangle. They use local talent and produce a show that we love and look forward to every year! The history of that is food for thought for another day!! My dad ran the ranch for the owner, Milton Daniel of Breckenridge. We grew up loving the ranch so much!! There was a creek -.Collins Creek – that meandered past the ranch on its way to empty into the beautiful Brazos River. It was a paradise for us kids. The barn at the ranch had a pitched tin front roof with a flat section in the back. I discovered that I could climb the fence by the back roof and get on top. It was perfect. A huge mesquite covered half of that roof with shade. I was the oldest and I loved my siblings, but I also loved to read. I could go to my hideaway with a quilt and a good book. I still feel the way I felt then during the warm summer afternoons as I would gaze up at the lazy white clouds drifting through the bluest skies in Texas. What an incredible way to get to experience the world through reading while enjoying God’s creation! I have been blessed!
